1. Prepare the oven
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9 × 13-inch casserole dish.
2. Cook the onion
Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened. Add the garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.

Allow it to rest for about 5 minutes before serving.

What Can I Add to Leftover Turkey Casserole?
This recipe is easy to adapt depending on what you have left after your holiday meal.
Try adding leftover green beans, peas, carrots, broccoli or roasted vegetables. You could even add a small amount of leftover stuffing for extra Thanksgiving flavor.
For an even richer casserole, replace some of the broth with leftover turkey gravy.
Can I Use Leftover Chicken Instead?
Yes. Cooked chicken works perfectly in place of turkey, making this recipe useful throughout the year rather than just after the holidays.
Rotisserie chicken is another quick option.

Storage and Reheating
Store leftover turkey casserole in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, taking into account how long the cooked turkey has already been refrigerated.
Reheat individual portions in the microwave, or cover the casserole dish with foil and warm it in a 350°F (175°C) oven until heated through.
Recipe Tips
Don’t overbake the casserole because the turkey is already cooked and can become dry.
If the mixture looks particularly thick before baking, add an extra splash of broth or milk. The casserole should be creamy before it goes into the oven.
For an extra-crispy topping, broil the casserole for 1–2 minutes at the end of baking, watching it carefully so the breadcrumbs don’t burn.
Serving Ideas
This creamy turkey casserole is filling enough to serve by itself, but it also goes well with a simple green salad, steamed broccoli, roasted vegetables or warm dinner rolls.
It’s an especially handy recipe for the days after a holiday meal when you want to turn leftover turkey into something that doesn’t feel like leftovers at all.
